As part of the U.P. Folklife Festival, we are offering a cooking class that celebrates the ingredients of the original residents of the Upper Peninsula – the Anishinaabe.
This class will utilize foods that were familiar to Indigenous cultures prior to European colonization such as manoomin, squash, berries, cedar, sumac, and more.
All these ingredients will come together for a delicious meal and demonstrate that Native American foodways are not snapshots of the past, but a vibrant, ever evolving, and thoroughly modern cuisine.
This class is free of dairy and refined sugar. The main course will include a choice of meat or beans.
